The Kind You Hide
Article 1 of “Burnout Is Not a Badge of Honour” with Samantha Newton, HR Consultant & Workplace Wellbeing Ally
Hi, I’m Samantha, founder of Magenta Core HR Solutions.
I spent over 20 years working in HR, handling everything from staff conflict and stress-related absence to policies and legal pitfalls. But I always knew there was more to it than contracts and compliance. There was care. Compassion. Connection.

Now, I work with wellbeing professionals, people like you, who are doing powerful work but feeling vulnerable, stretched, or unsure how to protect their energy while running a business.
At Magenta Core, I help holistic therapists, coaches, yoga teachers, bodyworkers and space-holders navigate the people side of practice, ethically, legally, and without the overwhelm.
This week, I’m exploring something that’s long overdue:
How we protect the protectors.
How we make wellbeing sustainable, for the ones providing it.
You hold space.
You support others through trauma, tension, and transformation.
You meet people with compassion, care, and presence.
And then, when your day ends, who’s holding that same space for you?
Burnout isn’t always loud.
Sometimes it’s subtle.
It’s the emotional exhaustion masked by a brave face.
It’s rescheduling your own needs. It’s showing up depleted but still giving your best.
This kind of quiet burnout? It’s incredibly common in the wellbeing community.
And I want to talk about it, openly, honestly, and without judgement.

As practitioners, whether you’re a therapist, coach, yoga teacher, reflexologist, or energy worker, you give so much of yourself. But too often, you don’t have systems, safeguards or even language in place to protect your energy.
You didn’t get into this work to worry about boundaries, policies or burnout recovery.
You got into it to help people feel well.
Whole.
Grounded.
But here’s the truth no one talks about enough:
Sustainable practice isn’t just spiritual, it’s structural.
Boundaries are part of wellbeing.
Contracts are part of care.
Clear expectations aren’t corporate, they’re compassionate.
After 20+ years in HR, most of them behind the scenes, supporting yoga teachers, reiki practitioners, massage therapists, coaches and counsellors, I’ve seen the same pattern play out again and again.
Brilliant practitioners, quietly running on empty.
One cancellation or complaint away from walking away.
And most of them say the same thing:
“I didn’t realise how vulnerable I was until something went wrong.”
You’d be amazed how many experienced, skilled practitioners I speak to who’ve never written down their boundaries.
You’re not behind.
You’re just overdue some support.
Start here:
What’s the biggest energetic drain in your work right now?
Even just one word. Tired. Overbooked. Unclear. Resentful.
Let’s name it together, without shame. No pressure. No fixing. Just truth.
Want a practical first step?
Grab a scrap of paper and write down three boundaries you wish your clients just understood without you having to say them.

That’s your starting point.
It’s not just admin, it’s energetic protection.
I’ll be next week with something every space-holder needs to hear:
Saying no isn’t selfish.
It’s sacred.
