It may also be beneficial in weight loss programmes as you only need a teeny piece to satisfy you, and it is a purer form of chocolate.
There are benefits to dark chocolate, but be sure to eat in moderation. The benefits are that it is full of antioxidants, helps for high blood pressure, and enhances one’s mood as it increases serotonin production in your brain. It also contains anandamide, which is known as “the bliss molecule”.
Have you ever seen the look on someone’s face when they eat and savour a piece of chocolate?
The flavonoids in chocolate have positive effects on cognitive and visual health. Flavonoids are great for helping to reduce inflammation, fighting free radicals, and repairing cellular damage. They also improve heart health by providing protection from disease and improving blood circulation. The effect of cacao has vasodilatory properties for your heart. Cacao is full of phytonutrients, which are plant-derived nutrients beneficial to our overall health. Raw organic cacao contains more calcium than cow’s milk and has 50% more vitamin C than blueberries.

Now, none of these positive benefits mean that you should overindulge in chocolate. You don’t need more than one ounce a day to feel satisfied and reap the health benefits. Perhaps keep it as a treat a few times a week. Remember that raw organic cacao is far healthier than the commercialised, overly sugared brands. If you don’t enjoy dark chocolate, always opt for a high-quality brand that contains more chocolate than added sugar.
When consuming raw cacao, please avoid eating it late at night or after dinner, as it may prevent you from sleeping. It is probably best enjoyed after lunch to give you a lift and a cognitive boost for the afternoon.
