A Little Christmas Magic

It’s that time of year again when we start decorating the tree, writing Christmas cards, wrapping presents, and cooking a lovely dinner.

Do you want your home to smell like Christmas?

Here’s a simple and delightful idea: cut an orange, a grapefruit, and an apple into slices. Add some star anise, cinnamon, nutmeg, a few smashed cardamom pods, and cloves. Pour water over the mixture and bring it to a boil. Slowly, the warmth and joy of the holiday season will fill your home with the scents of Christmas.

Christmas is filled with aromatic smells, but most of all, the fragrances of orange, apple, and cinnamon evoke memories of family, friends, sharing, and caring.

The Perfect Christmas Punch

There is no Christmas without a traditional Christmas punch—that’s the true “English spirit”!

Here’s what you need:

  • 750ml red wine (a pinot noir works well; no need for an expensive vintage as the spices will dominate the flavour)
  • 70g brown sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick and other spices to taste
  • 50ml Cognac
  • 50ml Cointreau
  • 50ml Port
  • 2 unwaxed oranges, quartered

Method:

  1. Place the red wine, brown sugar, cinnamon stick, and spices in a pan and heat gently for about 10 minutes.
  2. Add the Cognac, Cointreau, and Port, and heat for another 2 minutes.
  3. Arrange the oranges in a large heatproof bowl and pour the hot punch over them.
  4. Allow the punch to steep for a few minutes before serving in cups or glasses.

Enjoy your festive punch responsibly—stick to one or two drinks, no matter how tempting it is!

Remember to enjoy it after a meal and not on an empty stomach.

Hot Cinnamon Tea Recipe

For a warming, non-alcoholic treat, try this Hot Cinnamon Tea:

  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Hot water
  • 1 cinnamon stick for decoration (optional)

Method:

  1. In a mug, mix the apple cider vinegar and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  2. Pour in the hot water, stir, and decorate with a cinnamon stick if desired.
  3. Enjoy!

A tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a little water before meals can also help support digestion.

Self-Care During the Festive Season

Make time for yourself this festive season. Rest is essential, so prioritise sleep—it’s crucial for your well-being. Lower stress by having more fun and connecting with joy every day. Take this time to be grateful and spend quality moments with your loved ones.

Wishing everyone a very happy & healthy festive season!
