Finding Health and Balance

Through Yoga Practice

How are you feeling right now?

Stressed?

Overwhelmed with the demands on your time?

Fighting a losing battle?

An endless to-do list?

Consider the ancient science of Yoga as an antidote!

I have been practising yoga for over 15 years now, starting from an occasional practice but now an essential part of my daily routine.

Yoga first came to my attention in the ‘90’s as I sought an effective way to cope with all the demands of a high-pressure job, being single mum, and trying to keep fit and well. A co-worker mentioned to me that she knew a senior manager who told her that Yoga was his “secret” to success when managing a high-flying job.  At the time, I knew nothing about Yoga and frankly it seemed a little dull.

When I was in my 30’s, I started doing regular exercise, running and going to the gym. One day, I found a book about Yoga in a charity shop which triggered my interest and I started to try it.

I began with a local weekly class, and then for a few years, periodically dipped into regular classes.  It was difficult to make space in my busy routine for practice, but I continued to do so, as I noticed that I always felt different afterwards which kept me returning.

It wasn’t until the COVID lock-down period that it became a personal priority. I realised how helpful it was for my overall mind and body health. Initially, I used it to complement my home-based workouts, but then it started to take a more central role in my daily routine as I found it benefitted me physically, mentally, and spiritually.

As I am approaching the grand age of 60, I have started to think about what I would like to do when I finally retired from my full-time career.  I know I would like to keep healthy, as well as help others cope with the stress and the strain of life (potentially in the volunteering sector).  Last year the idea of deepening my yoga practice and potentially teaching yoga arose, so in August 2022 I made the plunge and commenced the 200-hour yoga teacher training with the Akasha Yoga Academy based in Bali

The whole studying experience – learning the correct alignment for asanas, body anatomy, yoga philosophies and (of course) how to teach yoga – was amazing!

Now, I am fully qualified as a Yoga Alliance International (registered 200-hour) yoga teacher. It is a true joy to share my passion for yoga with others (mostly with family, friends and co-workers).

Would you like to attain improved physical strength, health and a deep relief from stress?

Take some time out for yourself and use the ancient practice of Yoga!
