I’ve had a lot of questions about high cortisol and a dysregulated nervous system caused by long-term stress. Here is a list of the kind of symptoms that might indicate that you have a hormone imbalance as well as some natural things you can do to regulate again.

Some of the signs you have high cortisol levels or even have burnout:

  • Wake up between 2-4 am
  • Struggling to get out of bed
  • Exhausted all day but feel wired at night & can’t sleep
  • Can’t get rid of belly fat no matter what
  • Crave junk food
  • Don’t feel hungry in the morning
  • Hard to focus
  • Constantly zoning out
  • Isolating yourself
  • Low sex drive
  • Fatty hump on the back of your neck
  • Puffy face
  • Sweat smells worse
  • Poo changes
  • Bad breath
  • Hair is falling out
  • Tongue is white
  • Excessive sweating
  • Fingernails become yellow/brittle
  • Skin or scalp flaking

Natural habits you can start to help regulate your nervous system/hormone levels:

  • Sunrise gazing for optimum UV exposure
  • Grounding with bare feet on the ground
  • Time in nature
  • Walking
  • Cut out junk & processed foods
  • High protein breakfast within an hour of waking
  • Coffee only after breakfast
  • Reduce coffee & alcohol
  • Eating seasonally
  • Staying well hydrated with water
  • Cold showers (or at least at the end)
  • Reduce electronic use at night
  • Journaling
  • Meditation
  • Breathwork
  • EFT tapping
  • Somatic exercises

Lowering your cortisol levels naturally means:

  • Energy boost
  • Losing stubborn belly fat
  • Hormones balanced
  • Amazing sleep
  • Less anxiety & irritability
  • Better skin
  • Better brain function
  • Immune boost
  • More joy
