MAM 3 Step Rewind Technique

MAM 3 Step Rewind

I would like to tell you about the MAM 3 Step Rewind Technique taught by Mark Harris and Mia Scotland, it has revolutionised the way we help women get over crippling emotionally disabling symptoms.

Its origins are in the model of NLP, if you google “fast phobia cure” you will find lots of information regarding the original pattern that the founders of NLP taught to their early practitioners. Mia and I have added two other steps which we believe (and experience proves this) add to the rewinds potential to be effective when working with women who report feelings of discomfort and even what they would describe as trauma after having given birth.

My name is Jo Watson and my work as a private midwife has brought me into contact with many women who have experienced the crippling effects of a traumatic birth and I have worked with them successfully to overcome their negative symptoms and achieve an empowering birth. Using the MAM 3 step rewind technique I have witnessed first-hand, how women are completely set free from these disabling symptoms.

An estimated 30% of women who give birth are likely to end up on the spectrum of birth trauma, whether they recognise and report it or not. It is also happening for those who have experienced intervention which left them feeling violated, and were not treated with appropriate levels of care, dignity and respect by the medical staff.  In many cases mums and dads manage to move on past these feelings naturally as they assimilate the shock and move on with their lives as a family. However, in my experience many Women have not managed to “move on”, for them the anxiety, recurrent thoughts, hyper vigilance and other symptoms remain.

Physiologically what has happened is that the highly aroused emotions of fear and helplessness present during the trauma have become inextricably, biologically linked to the memory of the event. To be clear a woman suffering from such negative symptoms is triggering their fight or flight response unnecessarily when there is no present danger, constantly reliving what happened as if in the moment.

Therefore, sometimes well-intentioned advice to “move on” from what happened and being reminded that you have a beautiful baby so put it all behind you is pointless because the connection has been made in the neural pathway and so it is extremely difficult to rationalise or to wilfully stop the thoughts or feelings.

The MAM 3 Step Rewind Method is a gentle and safe way of working with both women and men to unhook this connection in the brain and naturally activate a person’s own ability to heal themselves. The simple but effective process moves someone through their past traumatic experience, allows them to understand its current impact on their day to day lives, before looking ahead to a future that they desire.

The MAM 3 step rewind is equally effective 3 months, as it is 3 years or even later, after the birth. Because birth is such a commonplace event, a new Mother may not find a safe space to express what she’s been through with honesty, and not feel judgement or comparison. If your birth experience is compounded by feelings of shame and guilt, being denied a place for open discussion, will only lead to isolation in the new Mum at the very time she is in need of company and support.
