Pierced

Corine Maxwell
Written by Corine Maxwell

Sometimes, pain builds slowly, unnoticed, until suddenly it becomes unbearable.

This poem explores the slow accumulation of emotional numbness, the breaking point when everything crashes in and the struggles to find something, anything, to hold onto.

It is a reflection on resilience, the moment when survival instincts take over and the quiet strength found in holding on, even when the storm rages.

Pierced

One needle pin,

piercing my skin—

I feel nothing.

Two needle pins,

piercing my skin—

I feel nothing.

Three. Four. Ten.

Needle pins, piercing my heart—

I feel everything.

A flood. A storm.

The world spins.

One. Two. Breaking through fog,

Three. Four. Holding on to a log.
