at South East Short Course Winter Regionals

I am thrilled to share Reese’s outstanding achievements from the South East Short Course Winter Regionals in Winchester. This past weekend was nothing short of extraordinary, as Reese showcased her dedication, resilience, and sportsmanship in every race she took part in.

Reese competed in six races, achieving personal bests in each one—a testament to the hard work she and her coach have put into her training this season. While some races were more challenging than others, she walked away with clear goals, valuable experience, and a renewed drive as she prepares for the Kent Counties early next year.

A Snapshot of Reese’s Standout Performances:

  • 50m Fly: Entered with a time of 30.11 seconds, she surpassed her previous record with an incredible 29.59 seconds. Breaking the 30-second barrier was a moment she’d been striving for, and she nailed it with focus and grit.
  • 200m Freestyle: Set a goal to beat her entry time of 2:12.18, and she delivered by clocking in at 2:09.89, achieving her goal of breaking the 2:10 mark. She was determined, and we all knew she could reach it.

A Finals Appearance & Inspiring Sportsmanship

Reese’s success didn’t stop there. She reached the finals for the 200m Fly, a significant accomplishment given the high level of competition in this mixed-age junior event. Finals placements were awarded for those aged 16 and under, making it an impressive feat for Reese to qualify and hold her own among competitors from various age groups.

As her club’s Team Manager, I had the joy of being poolside during the finals. Watching her not only compete but also demonstrate remarkable sportsmanship made me especially proud. One heartwarming moment I’ll never forget was when Reese saw a swimmer from a neighbouring club who was visibly disappointed with her own performance. I felt a gentle push from behind, accompanied by a soft “Excuse me, mum,” just as I saw Reese’s hand reach out to cup the girl’s head before she could walk away, pulling her into a tight embrace. Reese held her close, whispering words of encouragement and support as the girl cried in her arms. I heard Reese’s familiar words echo, “Next time, don’t worry, put it in the bin; you know you can do it.” It was heartwarming to witness such kindness and empathy, a true testament to the values she holds dear.

Later, I received a lovely voice note from another parent, expressing gratitude for Reese’s kindness and support toward their daughter. Moments like these truly remind us that while achievements in the pool are thrilling, the kindness she shows toward others is what makes us most proud.

Looking Ahead

With more training sessions ahead, Reese is already focused on her next goals, with her eyes set on Kent Counties early next year. As we enter the busy weeks ahead, we’re excited to watch her continue growing, both as an athlete and as the wonderful person she’s becoming.

Reese, like a glimmering snowflake, you’re one-of-a-kind, sparkling with grace & strength in every stroke. Your uniqueness, determination & kindness make you shine beautifully—keep it up!
