A Sacred Energy Practice for the Feminine Journey

Welcome to the second instalment of my “Menopause Series” articles.  Each article focuses on one element of my multi-prong approach to embracing this completely natural, if potentially extremely debilitating journey.

I must confess that during my own journey there was a huge element of trial and error and some things did not work for me, but they did for friends and clients, so I will include them in future articles for you to consider.

This time I want to talk to you about Reiki Healing and how it can support you on this journey, becoming your travelling companion, your safe place when you feel that nothing makes sense and you are about to “lose it”.  It can help you to find direction and balance leading you safely back to yourself.

I have said it before, and I will repeat it.  Menopause is not just a biological milestone – it is a spiritual initiation. As women we are on a path of evolution from maiden to crone, from young woman to wise woman and the menopause is the quiet, powerful rite of passage that marks the transition from the outward-focused, fertile years to a deeper, more intuitive and introspective phase of life.

It is the emergence of the wise woman within.

It is when we come into our own, a time when we can start to look inward and (re)-discover who we are, reconnecting with our own desires and priorities, reconnecting with our own voice, gently finding the courage to speak our own truth.  Believe me this can be equally liberating and terrifying, but at the end of this process we will stand in our own power, being who we need to be, quietly confident in our newfound maturity.

And on this sacred journey, Reiki can be a loving companion and an absolute life saver.

But before we go any further, what is Reiki?

In the words of its creator, Dr Mikao Usui, Reiki is a system of natural healing, based on the principle that everything is energy, and that energy vibrates at different frequencies.  When these energy frequencies are out of balance so are we and this can manifest in physical, emotional and mental dis-ease.

Reiki is the gentle art of channelling divine life force energy, inviting us to surrender, soften, and reconnect. It brings light into the shadows of discomfort, and peace into the heart of transformation.

Menopause as a Portal

The menopausal journey—though often misunderstood in modern culture – is a portal to power, leading to opportunities for self-discovery, newfound strength, and increased agency, resulting in embracing new roles, redefining who we are, and finding a deeper connection to our true self.

Yet, this transition can be deeply troubling and isolating. As estrogen wanes, the veils between body, mind, and spirit thin. We may find ourselves navigating:

  • Emotional surges
  • Physical shifts
  • Spiritual questioning
  • Energetic exhaustion or awakening

This is where Reiki, with its sacred, intuitive energy, can make a huge difference to how we experience the menopause and offer deep nourishment and healing to our minds, bodies and souls.

If, like me, you find yourself compelled to explore and reconnect with your spiritual self, Reiki can bring you so much solace and unexpected gifts, such as:

Energetic Clearing

Reiki clears stagnant energy, helping release the emotional residue of past cycles. Each session is like a soul-bath, washing away what is no longer needed, leaving you feeling lighter and brighter, more peaceful and grounded.

Womb Wisdom & Chakra Alignment

The Sacral Chakra, the energetic centre of creativity and femininity, undergoes huge recalibration during menopause. Reiki gently harmonizes this chakra and reconnects us with our inner womb wisdom, beyond physical fertility, and encouraging us to lean into our newfound and emerging wisdom.

Soothing the Spirit

In moments of restlessness, anxiety, or grief over change, Reiki soothes like a soft prayer whispered through the hands. It reminds us that we are not broken, we are blooming in a new way. It can be like a bridge over troubled water, providing us a lifeline to inner peace and joy, through gradual acceptance of our new reality.

Embracing the Inner Flame

Hot flashes, though often frustrating and physically challenging, can be seen as a spiritual fire, burning away the old self, one heated moment at a time, relentlessly, until our new, wise self is ready to emerge from the fire. Reiki helps us hold this fire with reverence rather than resistance, inviting us to practice self-compassion and surrender.

Sacred Stillness

As Reiki flows through us, it creates a still point—a sacred pause. In that space, we remember who we truly are: eternal, radiant, whole. This can bring a whole new level of acceptance of who we are becoming and the process we are going through, leading to increased awareness of our own needs, wants, boundaries and the courage to embrace this new us, one small still moment at a time.

These is just a small list of the benefits of engaging with Reiki on a regular basis to help us navigate what can be a really difficult time and for which there is no instruction manual, because we are all so beautifully unique.

How to Engage with Reiki

Find a practitioner you can trust and relate to – This is so important.  Feeling connected to your Reiki practitioner makes all the difference.  It means that you can fully lean into the practice and allow yourself to be completely open to the many gifts it can bring you.  Don’t be frightened to talk to a few practitioners and listen to your intuition, it will guide you to the right one for you.

Make Reiki part of your regular selfcare routine – Reiki is most effective when received regularly. The divine force energy channelled by your practitioner balances the energy within you and surrounding you, soothing your whole being and becomes more powerful and effective the more you engage with it.

The beauty of Reiki is that the treatment can be done remotely.  You and your practitioner do not have to be in the same physical space for it to work and this makes it one of the most portable healing modalities out there.

Consider Level 1 (Reiki Shoden) Training – This is a great way to make Reiki part of your daily routine, keeping you balanced between sessions with your Reiki practitioner.  It is a beautiful journey and one that I cannot recommend enough.

Conclusion

Menopause is not the end. It is a return—to your essence, your soul’s voice, your inner knowing.

Reiki offers a bridge back to your sacred self. It doesn’t fix you, because you are not broken—it simply reminds you that healing is your birthright, and that your power has always lived within. Embarking on my Reiki journey, from receiver to Reiki Master Teacher has been lifechanging.

Literally.  It is now a way of life that has made a profound difference to my life as a whole, not just my menopause journey, teaching me how to love myself and who I have become, bringing a new, deeper compassion dimension to my life, giving me more peace and joy.

A Little Gift From Me To You:

This is a little taster ritual for when you feel the need for peace, connection and grounding. It only takes 10 minutes and it is a beautiful way of connecting with your divine feminine energy.

Begin with a blessing. Light a candle. Place your hands on your heart. Breathe in light. Exhale anything heavy.

Gently lay your hands on:

  • Your womb: to honour your creative lineage
  • Your heart: to anchor in self-love
  • Your third eye: to awaken wisdom

Whisper to yourself:

“I honour this passage. I am becoming. I am enough.”

Let the energy flow. Trust it knows where to go.

I hope this article is giving you hope and has stirred your curiosity. Remember, this is not the end — it is the beginning of a beautiful new chapter in your life.
