An Australian Travelling Europe As A Digital Nomad

Are my qualifications actually valid here!?

The first hurdle in Denmark was having my Australian qualifications converted to the Danish system. I was initially told that they didn’t have a qualification like the one I studied (which was Remedial Massage therapy) and that it did not meet the Danish language requirements. It was only when I decided to return to working in wellness that I discovered that this information was false. I came back to my profession completely upskilled and in full force as I became part of a mega community of international wellness and spiritual beings. I want to continue expanding this network all the way across Europe!

Tax matters demanded a savvy accountant, a comrade from a Systemic Constellation Retreat who understood the intricacies of my nomadic lifestyle.

A good accountant will know the best options open to you as a digital nomad. There are increasingly more countries nowadays that are making it much easier to be on the move and hold digital residency in their country, like Estonia, Argentina and Portugal (although Portugal requires a hefty financial backing). There are rules that depend on if you physically practice in that country or operate purely online. The government websites of any country are good sources of information for digital nomads as they make it quite clear. It’s possible to register your entire online business and receive a business number. It also specifies which country you are a tax resident in. This is a big help to avoid overpaying in taxes.

It’s difficult in these times for anything you do online to not appear as a scam. This is a huge concern for most potential clients, me included. There are services I’ve been interested in, except never bought from as I was wary that they were scams, especially when it comes to spirituality! This made me think twice about the way I was offering my services. Simple solutions, like using WhatsApp or Instagram, clash with the need for secure channels. The struggle to balance simplicity with security persists. My advise – pay the extra money to set up your services securely and in a way that your clients are likely to find you.

That’s exactly what I was doing – setting up my listing on the Foyht’s server when I realised…

I had no idea what address to put in this required field!

Do I put down Australia? That’s a long way from my target audience in Europe – people are going to have a hard time trusting that! OR, I’m going to be in Norway for a few months, is it worth listing it there?  Except… I do spend most of my time in Italy! Do I have anywhere in Italy I could place as my address?

Thankfully this is where my old friend, Intuition, stepped in again, to give a resolute and resounding “Yes!”

I’ve always been drawn towards Italy, so it feels only natural to keep moving in the direction of my visions and desires. In a world increasingly enamoured with the nomadic lifestyle, perhaps the journey of the digital nomad could transcend normalisation and be naturalised. As I continue to follow the whispers of intuition, I invite others to embrace the impermanence, to see their lives as a garden waiting to be tended, and to recognise that, sometimes, the most beautiful blooms arise when we allow ourselves to be uprooted and replanted in new soil.
