What is Chromotherapy?

Chromotherapy is a Complementary medicine method of treatment that uses the visible spectrum of light that gives off electromagnetic radiation to cure diseases. It is an age old concept used successfully over thousands of years to help cure various diseases and treat minor ailments.

How does Chromotherapy work?

Colour therapists take into account how we experience light and colour when developing treatments. Colours are made up of the visible light spectrum that hit our retinas as wavelengths and vibrate. Our brain then interprets these wavelengths, into the colours and physical items we see everyday.

Colour therapy is based on the idea that colours create electrical impulses in the brain that stimulate hormonal and biochemical processes in the body and either relax or stimulate us. Lights also have this effect on skin and vibrate the cells to stimulate collagen and even hair growth! I have found very good results on skin with the LED treatments! Be aware some practitioners use near – infrared  this penetrates the skin deeper than blood level and should only be used by a trained professional, results are seen in a shortened amount of time but can also damage the skin if not understood properly or implemented by a professional.

Does it work alongside Medical Science cures?

Yes, put simply Chromotherapy is not a ‘cure all’, the treatment does have its limitations and should only be used as an aid to treat alongside conventional medicine. It does however have success in the beauty industry as a great way to detox, strengthen, relax or, stimulate a client. Lights are not always the right treatment for a client with a contra-indication such as epilepsy or severe migraine, in which case colour therapy is used as an alternative where coloured fabrics or glasses, as used with a S.A.D light, are used to produce vibrational healing without the bright LED lights.

Why do you practice Chromotherapy ?

I have only been practicing chromotherapy for around a year. There aren’t many people trained in the field at all, I kind of fell into being a chromotherapist as my background is in Interior Design which uses colour to improve the occupants wellbeing, mental health and general mood. I realised that interiors and lighting has the power to agitate, calm or improve a person’s health. This got me thinking about how colour could potentially be used for therapeutic use and so enrolled on a colour therapy course and did training in LED Photon Light Therapy and set up my own business called Aurora Eos offering Light Therapies, Therapeutic Art and MBSR.
