Winter Survival Guide: Banish S.A.D & body fatigue!

Beat body and skin fatigue!

I am a firm believer that healthy and glowing skin comes from within. A healthy diet, exercise and good, natural and nourishing beauty products all contribute to you feeling happy. Here are a few of my health and beauty tips that I have found to work for me.

Health ~ I love starting off my morning with a mug of hot water and lots of fresh lemon squeezed in. This helps to detox and alkalise the body first thing! Although we may think lemon is acidic it is actually one of the best natural ways to alkalise a really acidic body. It helps to keep my skin looking fresh, healthy and spot free! I also find that having a bowl of porridge with cinnamon, flax seeds, crushed almonds and a few blueberries keep me feeling full and less likely to over indulge in stodgy and unhealthy foods. I have always taken high quality multivitamin supplements and even more so during the winter months when the body needs more support, especially if you are susceptible to feeling low.

Beauty ~ It is extremely tempting to indulge in a luxurious bath every night in the winter, if you have the time that is. However, this can be extremely drying to the skin but having a soak once or twice a week can be incredibly soothing. I love adding natural bath salts with Rose and Geranium essential oils to my bath as this is an amazing treat for the body and mind! The natural salts help to detox the body and the essential oils can help to nourish the skin and create feelings of harmony and balance. I love using products that are chemical free but that smell great though I am not too keen on smelling like a herb box. My favourite face oil that I like to use during winter is Grape seed oil with a dash of either Lavender or Orange essential oil. It helps to invigorate my skin and my senses and it is wonderful for restoring elasticity. This is great underneath make up, but only if you have dry skin!

Body ~ As tempting as it may be to hide in doors and enjoy a snack fest on delicious treats, it is vital that we get our body moving during the winter months, this is especially important for maintaining a healthy mind-set. I have recently found a great form of yoga called Kundalini Yoga, which is perfect for clearing stagnant energy in the body and in turn, helps you to feel healthier and calm. Whilst the thought of doing a full blown cardio session is not overly tempting at this time of year, combining gentle toning exercises with a brisk walk or the occasional run, is highly beneficial for the body, mind and soul!
