Meditation for Kids

Can meditation help our little ones find strength and comfort in this busy world we live in?

I found this lovely album called Awareness Games for Kids on Do Yoga With Me. My eldest (9yrs) tends to get a little het up when he has to do something he doesn’t want to. I wonder if we sat and did some of these little exercises whether it might help him be able to calm himself and deal with these emotions. I think my youngest (7yrs) would enjoy these because he has a wonderfully busy, imaginative mind. When he was a couple of years younger he had “counselling” because he was struggling to deal with his emotions at school,  he is a very bright little boy but his emotional intelligence wasn’t as advanced as his mental intelligence. He still has trouble focussing at home and school, but his imagination is so vibrant and he is so curious about the world.

In recent months I have a realised the merits of being quiet and calm, to slow down my life and worry less. If I gain benefit from this way of thinking then I see no reason why my sons wouldn’t benefit too. This is why I think I shall ask my boys to sit with me and listen to one of these tracks each evening. I will keep you posted as to how I get on and add the boys feedback so we have a child’s perspective on these ideas.

Have you enrolled your children in yoga classes or do you practise some form of meditative technique at home? I would love to hear from you!
